Registration check list: Check each step as you complete each process.
- Step I – Sacramento City College (SCC) Advanced Education Application:
→Logon to www.scc.losrios.edu to complete the online Los Rios application.
→Click on “application” and choose to apply on-line. Create an account.
→Keep your Los Rios ID and password for completing the application and any future enrollment.
→If this is your first time taking a SCC course, you are a new Advanced Education student.
- On the question related to Student Enrollment Status, make sure you select ADVANCED EDUCATION, not New or Continuing.
→If you completed a course through SCC in the last year, you are a continuing student.
- Only complete the Supplemental Student Data Sheet.
- Step II –Write a statement indicating how you meet the requirements listed on the back of the Advanced Education Application (attached). Type a brief statement explaining how you meet the criteria and why you desire to do advanced education. Attach your statement to the application.
Here is an example: The (fill in the name of the class) course is not offered as part of my regular high school courses and I meet age and GPA requirements. I am interested in (fill in name of the class) because…
- Step III – Advanced Education Application (attached form)
1. Complete SectionI.Applicant (do not forget your Los Rios ID#).
2. Complete Section II. – Include Course Title and number.
Sociology 300 will be offered on the DVCA campus Fall, 2012.
Philosophy 300 will be offered, Spring 2013.
Fall 2012 – SOC 300 Introductory Sociology 3 Units
August 23 to December 20, 2012
Prerequisite: None. Course Transferable to UC/CSU Tues & Thurs 3:00-4:20
This course examines the elements and experience of social life. Analysis and discussion of social structure, culture, deviant behavior, social institutions, stratification, inequality and social change will be explored within a domestic and global framework.
Spring 2013 – PHIL 300 Introduction to Philosophy 3 Units – submit application November 2012
Prerequisite: None. Course Transferable to UC/CSU
This course will apply critical thinking techniques of analysis and evaluation to the methods, arguments, and positions of several philosophers on topics such as human freedom, the belief in God, the nature and limits of scientific knowledge, natural rights, the nature of the State, and the basis of moral judgments.
3. Obtain Parent/Guardian signature in Section III B. and back of form (read, sign and date).
4. Turn completed application and statement (from Step II) to your counselor with your course request sheet for the 2012-13 school year.
- Step IV – DVCA Counselor Meet with your high school counselor to obtain their signature in Secion IIIB of your application. If you are signing up for Soc 300 or Phil 300, you may stop here.
If you are taking Soc 300 or Phil 300, be sure to select a Free 7th Period in Zangle StudentConnect so that your DVCA courses do not conflict.

- Step V ––SCC Counselor: For all courses other than Soc 300 or Phil 300, contact the SCC Davis Center (530 747-5200) to schedule an appointment with a counselor. Be sure to bring your completed application with signatures, your statement and an unofficial transcript. You should also have finished steps I-IV.
