Prospective Employers

Da Vinci Charter Academy high school students are given the opportunity to experience first hand the realities of the work place by completing a 40-hour internship during their senior year.  This experience enhances their resume, boosts their marketability, and teaches them the basic responsibilities of a real-life job. The students are expected to behave in a professional manner, completing their tasks thoroughly and to the best of their ability.

Students are matched to internship opportunities based on their career interests and abilities. The career interests of the students at Da Vinci Charter Academy are as varied as those of any other high school. Career choices range from pastry chef to lawyer, website designer to music teacher and everything in between. The goal of the Internship program is to provide students with hands on experience in a field of interest, helping them narrow-in on their abilities, form opinions about future jobs, and make decisions toward college pursuits, while providing them with a valuable education experience. By offering a student an internship, you help the student gain professional confidence and motivate them to do what it takes to pursue their dreams. You can know whether or not you’re prepared to host a student intern by answering the
following questions:

  • Do you have clear & specific expectations of the intern?
  • Is there an immediate supervisor willing to provide instruction and direction for the intern?
  • Do you have the time to orient the student with your work environment; including safety dress code, absences, parking, telephone etiquette, and unfamiliar computer programs?
  • Are you committed to signing a weekly timesheet, filling out mid-point & final evaluation forms, as well as signing a contract listing 4 work objectives your intern must accomplish?
  • Are you willing to contact the Internship coordinator should problems arise?
  • Are you committed to making sure the internship experience is mutually beneficial for both your company and the DVCA student intern?

If you have answered “yes” to all of these questions then you are prepared to take on the responsibilities of hosting a student intern!
